Title: Move Me movie
Curricular connections:

Synopsis:
Animation with a twist.
Key Questions:
Why are animated cartoons popular? How do they work?
Does color affect the animation? If so, how?
Materials:
INTERNET, INTRANET, Digital Camera, Computer, Art materials (paper, pencils, markers)
Activities:
Before project begins, discuss safe surfing rules.
Visit a series of kid friendly sites with lots of moving images.
Each student draws several quick sketches on index card stock. Detail is not important.
Each student makes a series of sketches which are slightly altered from one to the next.
The sketches are colored and stapled together. Fanned quickly, the sketches appear to move.
Following satisfactory sketch, student takes it to computer and redraws it on computer.
Sketch is altered slightly and saved. This step is repeated several times.
Finished sketches are colored one by one and saved as .gif files.
Students at computer assemble .gif files with animator program to create animation.
Be sure to present a variety of topical words to students at beginning and end of class.
End with discussion and oral presentations at the computer. View animations on a web browser such as IE 5.0 or Netscape Navigator 4.0 or higher.
Variations:
Use a digital picture instead of a line drawing.
