Title: Tasty Treats
Curricular connections:
Technology, Art/Design, Language Arts, Science, etc
Synopsis:
Expressing the pleasures of the palate through poetry and paint.
Key Questions:
What are your favorite foods? How do the foods we eat affect our moods and well being?
Can you describe a food differently (or the same) in words and pictures?
Materials:
Text resources, Digital Camera, Computer, Art materials (paper, pencils, Styrofoam, paints)
Activities:
Discuss key questions with class.
Each student draws a still life of assorted foods displayed in the center of the class.
Each student draws the still life several times to master the forms.
Each student creates a Styrofoam printing plate and prints several prints.
Students and teachers use digital camera to capture images of students at work.
Students scan prints and save as digital files.
Each student uses computer software to compose food poem and paste in digital image.
End with discussion and oral presentations.
Each student shares their poem and prints during a literary tea (lemonade and cookies).
Publish your students’ work as an anthology. Encourage students to share it with others.
Variations:
Import a digital picture into the computer project instead of a scanned picture.
